Trump: US 'terminating' World Health Organization ties

US president says global health body has failed to make requested reforms following its handing of coronavirus pandemic

WASHINGTON (AA) - The US is ending its relationship with the World Health Organization, President Donald Trump announced Friday following a months-long review he ordered.

Trump said he is taking the action "because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms" after Trump paused US funding over concerns the global health body mishandled the novel coronavirus outbreak.

"We will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization, and redirecting those funds to other world-wide and deserving urgent global public health needs," he said. "The world needs answers from China on the virus. We must have transparency."
