TUNISIA (AA) – A Tunisian peacekeeper was killed in a shooting attack in the Central African Republic near the border with Chad, the Defense Minsitry said on Wednesday.

A ministry statement said the soldier was killed when a Tunisian patrol with the UN peacekeeping mission, known as MINUSCA, came under fire in Ndélé region on Tuesday evening.

“The patrol was carrying out its routine duties under the United Nations flag as part of the MINUSCA,” the ministry said.

In July 2021, the Tunisian parliament approved a draft resolution to send military forces to the Central African Republic as part of the UN peacekeeping mission, which began its operations in the country on April 10, 2014.

The peacekeeping forces consist of military personnel provided by UN member states, selected based on their neutrality in the conflict.
