Tunisia’s Ghannouchi questioned on terror-linked charges: Lawyer

Rached Ghannouchi faces accusations of sending Tunisians to conflict zones overseas

By Adel Thabeti

TUNIS, Tunisia (AA) – Tunisian judicial authorities on Monday questioned Ennahda leader Rached Ghannouchi over terror-linked accusations, according to his defense lawyer.

“Ghannouchi was questioned Monday morning,” Mukhtar al-Jamai told Anadolu Agency.

He said the questioning session had originally been scheduled for Sept. 21, but was postponed until Nov. 28 upon the request of Ghannouchi’s defense lawyers.

Ghannouchi and his deputy Ali Laarayedh face accusations of sending Tunisians to conflict zones overseas.

The Ennahda movement has termed the accusations against its leaders as “void.”

Tunisia has been in the throes of a deep political crisis that aggravated the country's economic conditions since last year, when President Kais Saied ousted the government and dissolved parliament.
