Ruling party lawmaker says he resigns in line with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's demand

ANKARA (AA) - The ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party lawmaker Mustafa Yeneroglu resigned from the party on Wednesday.

"In line with the demand of the president, I resign from AK Party," Yeneroglu, lawmaker from Istanbul province, told reporters at the parliament.

Ahead of my resignation, I was accused of being "opportunist," and "self-seeker," Yeneroglu said.

"As everybody knows, these accusations have not changed my stance," he added.

Following Yeneroglu's resign, the AK Party now holds 290 seats in the parliament, while the Republican People’s Party (CHP) has 142 seats, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) 65, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) 49, Good (IYI) Party 39, Felicity (Saadet) Party 2, Turkish Workers Party 2, Democrat Party (DP) 1, Grand Unity Party (BBP) 1, and independents hold 4 seats.
