ANKARA (AA) – Two fugitives linked to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the defeated coup of 2016, were arrested after security forces raided terror cells in the capital Ankara.

Abdullah. E, a former senior police officer who was dismissed from his post due to his affiliation with the terror group, was caught by police teams.

He was hiding at a well-guarded terror cell at the time of the operation. Codenamed "highly loyal" by the terror group, he would stay indoors at all times for fear of being exposed and communicate with the terror group through a blockchain application.

Also, another FETO fugitive, a former academic named Gozde O., was arrested at another terror cell located in Cankaya district of the capital. She is accused of membership in the terror group.

According to the security sources, she was hiding at a well-protected terror cell monitored via many security cameras. She too was taking similar measures to avoid being caught.

In addition, security units confiscated many organization documents and digital materials linked to the terror group.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in which 251 people were martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
