ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s main opposition mayoral candidate has been elected mayor of northwestern Bilecik province in local elections, according to unofficial results on Sunday.
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) candidate, Semih Sahin, bagged 15,739 votes, while ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party got 13,113 votes, according to the unofficial results.
Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
