Turkey: Opposition head rules out early elections

Presidential, parliamentary elections to be held in June 2023, says MHP leader

OSMANIYE, Turkey (AA) - The head of Turkey's opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) said Thursday that the country does not need to hold snap polls.

"There is no early election, there is no need for [early] election," Devlet Bahceli said, addressing voters at a rally in southern Osmaniye province.

Bahceli said that after Sunday's local elections, the presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in June 2023.

"The target is democratic normalization, political stability and economic development," Bahceli said, stressing on a series of targets for Turkey's centennial in 2023.

"We will never make a concession on our goal of making Turkey a leading country in 2023," Bahceli said.
