Turkey: Over 1,000 virus recoveries, nearly 7.9M tests

About 1,700 new coronavirus cases found in Turkey in past 24 hours, says health minister

ISTANBUL (AA) – Over 1,700 new coronavirus cases and more than 1,000 recoveries were reported in Turkey on Monday.

The country’s overall infection count to date reached 281,509 with new 1,703 virus cases, wrote Health Minister Fahrettin Koca on Twitter, citing Health Ministry data.

Koca said 1,047 more patients recovered over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 252,152.

The death toll rose by 57 to reach 6,730, he added.

A total of 103,925 more COVID-19 tests were done over the past day, pushing the total up to over 7.88 million.

The number of patients in critical condition stands at 1,118, the data showed.

Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed almost 890,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since last December.

The US, Brazil, India, and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 27.2 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries over 18.16 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
