DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) – The death toll from a PKK-led attack on a traffic police station in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir rose to eight on Tuesday.

A technician injured in Monday's attack died of his wounds, according to a hospital source.

Diyarbakir Governor’s Office had earlier confirmed at least 45 people, including seven police officers, were hurt in Monday’s attack on the Martyr Chief of Police Murat Ucar Regional Traffic Check Station along the Diyarbakir-Batman highway.

The attack also targeted civilians, killing one child. The governor’s office statement on Monday said that 29 out of 45 injured had been discharged from hospital.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 600 security personnel have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed.
