AGRI, Turkey (AA) – A terrorist was “neutralized” and three soldiers were injured in a clash between security forces and the terrorist PKK in eastern Turkey’s Agri province on Friday, the regional governor’s office said.

The Agri Governor’s Office said in a statement an operation against the PKK in the province’s Sinek highlands resulted in a gunbattle between security forces and the terrorist group.

The injured soldiers were taken to a state hospital in Agri for treatment. One of the soldiers, who is in critical condition, was flown with a helicopter to neighboring eastern province of Erzurum and was taken to a hospital there for treatment.

An extensive security operation in the region remains ongoing.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 600 security personnel have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed.
