Turkey: Police nabs woman hiding drugs in her stomach

More than 1 kilogram of cocaine in 116 capsules found in suspect's stomach

ANKARA (AA) - Police at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport have arrested a woman trying to smuggle cocaine in capsules hidden in her stomach, a police source said Tuesday.

Police released x-ray images of the suspect -- a Brazilian national identified only as S.A.D.A.J who arrived in Turkey on May 11 -- showing 116 capsules she had swallowed filled with nearly 1.2 kilograms of cocaine.

She was taken under police custody on arrival at the airport, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Capsules have been surgically removed from the woman's body.

The woman was sent behind bars by a court pending trial.
