ANKARA (AA) – The candidate of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party has been elected mayor of eastern Bingol province, according to unofficial results on Sunday.
Erdal Arikan bagged 18,346 votes, while the candidate of opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) got 14,422 votes.
Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
