ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate has been elected mayor of eastern Malatya province, according to unofficial results on Sunday.
Selahattin Gurkan bagged 227,374 votes, while main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) got 71,553 votes.
Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
