Turkey: Ruling party candidate elected mayor of Nevsehir

With 94 percent of the ballot boxes opened, Rasim Ari bags 51 percent votes

ANKARA (AA) - Ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate Rasim Ari was elected mayor of central province of Nevsehir, according to unofficial results of the March 31 local elections.

With 94 percent of the ballot boxes opened in Nevsehir, Rasim Ari secured 51 percent votes. His closest rival, Nationalist Movement Party's Filiz Kilic secured close to 35 percent votes.

Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
