KILIS, Turkey (AA) – The Turkish Red Crescent sent Thursday 10 trucks of humanitarian aid to Syria via the Oncupinar border crossing in the southern province of Kilis.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

"The humanitarian aid consist of 75 percent food, 15 percent medical material and 10 percent non-food humanitarian aid," Red Crescent coordinator Hakan Sari told Anadolu Agency in Kilis.

Since the war, more than 250,000 people have been killed and more than 10 million displaced, according to the UN, which stopped counting two years ago.
