ANKARA (AA) - Turkey should immediately pull out from Syria and the war-torn country should be left to the will of its people, a Turkish opposition party leader said on Tuesday.
"Turkey should immediately withdraw from Syria," Pervin Buldan, co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), told her party's parliamentary group. "Syria should be left to the will of Syrians."
Buldan recalled that her party had rejected the presidential motion on deployment of troops in Syria, saying: "Those who said yes to the motion are responsible for casualties there."
Buldan wished Allah's mercy to the soldiers martyred in Idlib, northwestern Syria, and also offered condolences to their families.
Her comments came a day after five Turkish troops were martyred and five more injured in shelling by regime forces in Idlib.
The Turkish troops are in Idlib as part of a 2018 cease-fire agreement between Turkey and Russia. However, regime troops led by Bashar al-Assad and his allies continue to violate the truce in the de-escalation zone where violence is expressly prohibited.
But more than 1,800 civilians have been killed in attacks by regime and Russian forces since then, flouting both the 2018 cease-fire and a new one that started on Jan. 12.
