Turkey's Borsa Istanbul crosses 110,000 points at close

BIST 100 index rises 1.55 percent at Tuesday's close; USD/TRY rate climbs to 3.80 while EUR/TRY stands at 4.42

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Tuesday up 1.55 percent at 110,142.60 points with a trade volume of 7.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.89 billion).

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 1,675.82 points, up from 108,466.78 points at the close on Monday, while the banking and holding sector indices increased by 2.41 and 1.77 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the leasing, factoring sector index was the top performer -- up 3.22 percent -- while the tourism sector index suffered the biggest drop, losing 3.10 percent.

Stocks of commercial vehicle manufacturer Karsan Otomotiv performed best, up 19.54 percent, while electronic retail company Teknosa's stocks suffered the most, falling 5.74 percent.

The top five traded shares of the BIST 100 were electronics and domestic appliances manufacturer Vestel, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, defense company Aselsan, Karsan Otomotiv and private lender Garanti.

At Tuesday's close, the Euro/Turkish Lira exchange rate increased to 3.4270-- up from Monday's close at 4.3950 -- and the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira rate climbed to 3.8040, compared with 3.7830 at last close.

Borsa Istanbul's Gold Exchange index slightly declined by 0.06 percent, while the price of gold per kilogram stood at 155,300 Turkish liras ($40,956) as of 4.30 p.m. local time (1330GMT) compared with 154,500 Turkish liras ($40,934) at close on Monday.

Brent crude oil price was $60.47 per barrel at Tuesday's close, compared with $60.23 at Monday's close.
