Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at open

Index loses over 900 points from last week's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened Thursday at 98,504.05 points, with a decrease of 0.91%.

On the first day of a shortened trading week due to the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 900.98 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed the last week at 99,405.03 points -- up of 0.20% -- with a daily trading volume of 6.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.1 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.5590 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday, up from 5.4970 on Friday.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.2060, versus 6.1520, and one British pound traded for 6.7190 Turkish liras, compared to 6.6260 at the last week's close.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for $59.35 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Thursday.
