ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index opened the week at 1,751.05 points on Monday, up 0.79% or 13.72 points from the previous close.
On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up by 0.03% to 1,737.33 points – a record high for both daily and weekly closings, with a daily trading volume of more than 29 billion Turkish liras ($2.6 billion).
It was the sixth consecutive weekly close on Friday that the BIST 100 posted a gain, while it increased 6.03% on a weekly basis.
The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 10.9870 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 11.1250 at Thursday's close.
The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also decreased to 12.3910, compared to 12.5840, while one British pound traded for 14.8080 Turkish liras, down from 15.0240.
One barrel of Brent crude oil was sold for around $78.5 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
