Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up 1.21% at daily close

BIST 100 surges over 1,280 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed Thursday at 107,126.18 points, up 1.21% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 106,084.66 points. As of the daily close, it gained 1,282 points from Wednesday's close of 105,844.17 points.

During Thursday's trading, the index hovered between 106,015.84 points and 106,162.31 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 725 billion Turkish liras ($126 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 7.5 billion Turkish liras (some $1.3 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 54 stocks on the index rose, one went down, and the remaining were flat compared to Wednesday.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemical company Petkim and defense giant Aselsan.

Information technologies company Netas was the best performer with its shares up 8.33%, while shares of MLP Saglık Hizmetleri, which operates in healthcare sector, dropped the most, down 1.81%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,455.14 by market close, down from $1,459.20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $63 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Thursday.
