Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at midweek opening

BIST 100 index increases over 460 points versus previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index surged 0.44%, or 464.61 points, to start Wednesday at 107,254.48 points.

On Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 1.21% to 106,789.87 points with a daily trading volume of 12 billion Turkish liras (some $2.1 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 5.7450 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared to 5.7340 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.3650, versus 6.3510, and one British pound traded for 7.4810 Turkish liras, while it was 7.4710 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $61.27 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
