Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at opening

BIST 100 index climbs over 440 points, while Turkish lira gains in value against foreign currencies

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.45 percent or 442.10 points to open at 97,820.68 points on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped by 1.96 percent to close the day at 97,378.58 points with a daily trading volume of 8.39 billion Turkish liras ($1.52 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped nearly 2.8 percent to 5.3820 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), compared to Tuesday's closing rate of 5.5370.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also fell by around 3 percent to 6.0940, versus 6.2800 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.1180 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.3600 at market close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil was around $67.55 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday.
