BIST 100 climbs 0.45 percent, Turkish lira gains value against foreign currencies

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's stock exchange rose 0.45 percent, or 418,72 points, to open at 93,887.71 points on Wednesday.

The BIST banking and holding sector indices increased 0.60 percent and 0.56 percent, respectively.

Among all sector indices, the investment trusts sector index posted the best performance, up 0.93 percent, while the wholesale and retail trade sector was the worst, down 0.09 percent.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 closed at 93,468.99, down 1.28 percent, or 1,212.71 points, with a trading volume of 7.25 billion liras ($1.25 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate dropped to 5.7620 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday. It was 5.7910 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/lira exchange rate was also down at 6.6080 by market open -- from 6.6420 at the previous close -- and one British pound traded for 7.4920 Turkish liras, down from 7.5270 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil declined to $76.24 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday, compared to $76.44 on Tuesday.
