Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Wednesday's opening

At opening bell, BIST 100 index up over 240 points from previous close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.22%, or 243.83 points on Wednesday, to start the midday of the week at 113,397.29 points.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index soared 0.87% to reach 113,153.46 points with a daily trading volume of 9.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.65 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 5.9440 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared to 5.9480 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also fell slightly to 6.5950, versus 6.5980, and one British pound traded for 7.7180 Turkish liras, versus 7.7140 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $67.20 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
