Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up nearly 1% at open

BIST 100 index earns nearly 1,200 points from previous close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index jumped 0.98%, or 1,163.22 points, on Tuesday to start the day at 119,504.74 points.

At Monday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was down rapidly by 2.21% at 118,341.52 points, with a daily trading volume of 14.8 billion Turkish liras (nearly $2.5 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.0220 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday, versus 6.0180 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose slightly to 6.5730, compared to 6.5840, and one British pound traded for 7.7960 Turkish liras. It was 7.7980 at Monday's close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $53.95 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Tuesday.
