Turkey's net external debt $259B in Q3: Treasury

The figure falls almost $3B from $261.9B at end of June, from 37 pct to 30.5 pct of national income

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's net external debt stock stood at $259 billion at the end of the third quarter, or 30.5 percent of the country's national income, the Treasury said on Friday.

The figure fell nearly $3 billion from $261.9 billion at the end of June, when it was 37 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), the Treasury also said.

According to data posted on the Treasury's website, the gross external debt stood at nearly $417 billion, amounting to 49 percent of GDP.

Nearly 71 percent of the total external debt comes from the private sector at $293.7 billion, while the share of public sector debt constituted 29.3 percent at $122 billion, said the data.

The rest of the debt comes from external liabilities of the Turkish Central Bank amounting to $964 million.

Meanwhile, Treasury-guaranteed external debt stock at the end of September totalled $12 billion, the Treasury added.
