ANKARA (AA) - The opposition Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) candidate has been elected mayor of the eastern province of Siirt in local elections on Sunday.
Berivan Helen bagged 32,660 votes, while ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate Ali Ilbas got 31,159 votes, according to unofficial results.
Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
