Turkey’s ruling party candidate elected Afyonkarahisar mayor

Mehmet Zeybek bags nearly 57,000 votes in local elections

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate has been elected mayor of Turkey’s western province of Afyonkarahisar in local elections on Sunday.

Mehmet Zeybek bagged 56,900 votes, while opposition Good (IYI) Party's Mahmut Kocak got 48,859 votes, according to unofficial results.

Earlier on Sunday, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
