Turkish army ‘neutralizes’ 6 terrorists in N. Iraq

Turkish jets target terrorists in Zap and Hakurk regions of northern Iraq on Sunday

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish jets “neutralized” six PKK terrorists in northern Iraq, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Monday.

Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

The airstrikes were carried out in Zap and Hakurk regions on Sunday, the ministry said on Twitter.

The terrorists were plotting attacks on Turkish bases, it added.

The airstrikes also destroyed the shelters and caves of the terror group, according to the ministry.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women and children.
