ISTANBUL (AA) – The Turkish central government's gross debt stock totaled 4.03 trillion Turkish liras ($215.1 billion) as of the end of 2022, according to official figures released on Friday.
Data from the Treasury and Finance Ministry showed that the figure soared by 47% last month from December 2021.
It includes the outstanding debt of public bodies, the Turkish Central Bank, private companies, and households.
Some 34.5% of the debt stock is denominated in Türkiye's local currency, while the rest is in foreign currency.
While 1.9 trillion Turkish liras ($101.4 billion) of the debt was domestic, some 2.13 trillion liras ($113.7 billion) of it was external.
The data also showed that as of Dec. 31, the stock of Treasury receivables totaled 20.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.09 billion).
The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was around 18.73 at the end of the last year.
