ANKARA (AA) - A parliamentary committee on Tuesday dropped an article of a bill that would have prohibited industries from operating within three kilometers (1.9 miles) of olive groves in the country for the sake of protecting the environment.

The parliament's industry committee dropped the article on olive cultivation after objections from members of opposition parties.

The parliament will continue to debate the remaining 88 articles of "Developing the Industry and Supporting the Production" bill until the parliament goes into summer recess.
