ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish modular building manufacturer Karmod has begun construction on a steel-frame school project in the Romanian city of Konstanza, the company announced Wednesday.
Karmod Prefabricated General Manager Ugur Kadir said the school building, which will include four classrooms, is expected to be completed in just 15 days.
“The steel structure model is increasingly preferred for educational buildings due to its standout advantages,” said Kadir.
“There are several reasons steel structures are chosen for schools, the most important being building safety. These systems provide secure, long-lasting use and can be constructed up to 70% faster than traditional methods,” he added.
Kadir highlighted that the steel construction allows for wide, open interior spaces without the need for large columns or beams, and offers energy efficiency, thanks to superior climate control performance.
The project was designed at Karmod’s technical office, taking into account Romania’s building regulations for educational facilities, Kadir noted.
The 279-square-meter (3003.13 square foot) building includes four classrooms measuring 48 and 41 square meters, as well as a teachers’ room. The structure uses steel support systems from walls to roof, with exterior walls featuring 15-centimeter (6-inch) insulation tailored for local conditions.
Kadir said modular components were transported by road and installation began this week.
The company wants to deliver the completed school within two weeks.
