Turkish documentary receives best film award at Morocco festival

Queen Lear, directed by Pelin Esmer, follows women theatre group touring villages

RABAT, Morocco (AA) – A Turkish documentary film on Friday received the best film award at an international film festival in Morocco.

In a statement, the International Mediterranean Film Festival in Tetouan said that this year’s event was held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions.

It was the 26th edition of the event and featured films from 15 countries.

Queen Lear, directed by Pelin Esmer, follows a peasant-women theatre group touring villages. It was awarded the Grand Prix.

Directed by Ali Ozel, Steppe, another film in the festival from Turkey, won an award in the category of feature films.

Apart from Morocco and Turkey, films from Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, France, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia also premiered.
