GUMULCINE, Greece (AA) – A Turkish-flagged cargo vessel run aground off the Greek island of Ilyaki (Tilos) in the Aegean Sea on Friday, Greek authorities said.
A 17-member Turkish crew were aboard the ship named Med Cerkezkoy, according to information Anadolu obtained from officials of the Greek Maritime and Insular Policy Ministry.
The officials said the ship, which set sail from the Greek port city of Piraeus, was heading to Syria when it ran aground in the Akra Monastiri cape, west of the Ilyaki island.
Two tugboats moved to tow the 146-meter-long (479-feet-long) ship, they said, adding that the vessel was not sinking.
Ilyaki Mayor Maria Kamma told Greek public broadcaster ERT that they were monitoring the situation.
