ANKARA (AA) – Turkish warplanes destroyed targets belonging to the terrorist PKK group in northern Iraq late on Wednesday, security sources have said.

According to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, the Turkish military’s jets attacked the at least six PKK targets in the Sinath and Haftanin regions.

Wednesday's air operation was conducted between 22.05 p.m. and 22.28 p.m. local time (2005-2028GMT) and at least six targets were destroyed, the sources added.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015. Since then, around 500 security personnel have been martyred and more than 4,900 PKK terrorists killed.
