Turkish jets hit PKK in southeast Turkey, northern Iraq

Strikes hit terrorist targets on Sunday, Turkish military says

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish warplanes destroyed targets of the terrorist PKK group in northern Iraq and in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province Sunday, the military has said.

In a statement Monday, the Turkish General Staff said its jets attacked the PKK targets in Iraq's Gara, Avasin and Qandil regions as well as in the Yuksekova district of Hakkari.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015. Since then, around 500 security personnel have been martyred and more than 4,900 PKK terrorists killed.
