Turkish leader visits Bosnian founder president's grave

Recep Tayyip Erdogan lays wreath at Alija Izetbegovic's grave and Monument of Unknown Soldier

SARAJEVO, Bosnia Herzegovina (AA) - Starting a two-day visit to the capital Sarajevo on Monday, Turkey’s president paid tribute to Bosnia and Herzegovina's founding leader at his final resting place.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the gravesite of Alija Izetbegovic, the nation’s first president, at the Kovaci War Memorial and Cemetery.

After greeting public well-wishers at the entrance to the memorial, Erdogan laid wreaths at Izetbegovic’s gravesite as well as the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

Erdogan was accompanied by Bosniak Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sefik Dzaferovic, House of Peoples Chairman Bakir Izetbegovic, and many high-ranking Turkish officials.

Later, Erdogan is set to meet with the two other members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Slovenian President Borut Pahor and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

He will also attend the two-day Summit of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP).
