Turkish minister hits out at US support for YPG

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu says Turkey is also angry over lack of coalition air support for anti-Daesh operation

ANKARA (AA) – Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Thursday it was “clearly known” that the United States had supplied the PKK terror group’s Syrian wing, the YPG.

Cavusoglu was also critical of U.S.-led coalition forces which had not recently given air support to Turkey-backed opposition fighters taking part in Operation Euphrates Shield against Daesh.

His remarks came on a live TV interview early on Thursday.

The minister stressed Turkey would never allow “terror cantons” in northern Syria.

The YPG is the armed wing of the PYD -- the Syrian offshoot of the PKK, which is designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
