Turkish opposition DBP co-chair remanded in custody

Democratic Regions Party Co-Chairwoman Sebahat Tuncel is accused of 'being a member of a terrorist organization'

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) - The co-chair of the opposition Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Sebahat Tuncel, was put behind bars Sunday after she was remanded in custody in connection with an ongoing terrorism investigation.

Tuncel was arrested in southeastern Diyarbakir province on Friday as part of the counter-terrorism probe, according to a judicial source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Tuncel is accused of "being a member of terrorist organization."

Also Sunday, the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) announced the suspension of its parliamentary activities following the arrest of 12 of its lawmakers on Friday.
