ANKARA (AA) - The Turkish parliament speaker on Thursday met with the EU Parliament's Turkey rapporteur in the capital Ankara.

Turkey's Mustafa Sentop and the EU's Nacho Sanchez Amor met in Sentop's office in a closed-door meeting that lasted nearly an hour, the speaker's office stated.

Following the meeting, Amor visited sections of the Turkish parliament bombed during the defeated coup of July 15, 2016.

The Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup, which martyred 251 people and injured nearly 2,200 others.

Turkey also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.

Later on, Sentop met with the speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Marzouq Al Ghanim.

After the meeting, Sentop and Al Ghanim visited the general assembly hall of the parliament.
