KILIS, Turkey (AA) - At least 400 liters (880 lbs.) of bootleg alcohol were seized on Tuesday by security forces in the southern Turkish province of Kilis.
Anti-smuggling teams found 400 liters of ethyl alcohol in a vehicle during a traffic check and arrested the driver.
The Syrian national driver, identified by the initials H.B., was released after routine procedures at the police department.
Bootleg alcohol is made by using low-cost alcohol, which causes serious harm to human health and, in some cases, even death.
Over 100 people in Turkey lost their lives due to bootleg alcohol since Sept. 9, 2020, when the number of bootleg alcohol-related deaths started escalating.
