SIRNAK, Turkey (AA) - A Turkish soldier was martyred and two others injured in a PKK attack in Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province Wednesday, according to a security source.
A group of PKK terrorists opened fire with long-barreled weapons on Turkish soldiers in the Bestler-Dereler area in Sirnak, said the source on condition of anonymity.
One soldier succumbed to his wounds at Sirnak State Hospital. Two others were injured.
A search operation to apprehend the attackers was launched.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July last year.
Since then, more than 700 security force members have been martyred and around 8,000 PKK terrorists killed or apprehended.
