VAN, Turkey (AA) – A Turkish soldier succumbed to his injuries at an Ankara hospital, 16 days after a clash with the terrorist group PKK, sources said on Saturday.

Turkish soldier Ugur Saglam had been injured on May 24 during a clash with the terrorist group PKK in Diyarbakir, in southeastern Turkey.

He will be laid to rest in the eastern province of Van on Sunday.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
