Turkish stock exchange down at midweek close

Benchmark BIST 100 index loses 103.96 points at Wednesday's closing session

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 10,121.52 points, down 1.02% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index, after starting the day at 10,210.76, lost 103.96 points from the close on Monday. The stock exchange was closed on Tuesday on account of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.

The lowest point for the index was 9,990.12, while the daily high was 10,306.71.

During the day, 65 indexes lost in value while 34 closed with gains.

The daily transaction volume reached 124.1 billion Turkish liras ($3.1 billion), while the overall value of the index was 9.32 trillion liras ($232.4 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 40.2480 as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 47.0165, and the British pound traded at 54.1750.

The price of an ounce of gold was $3,367.95, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $67.65.
