Turkish stock exchange falls over 3.4% at close

BIST 100 index loses almost 160 points on Thursday

ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye's benchmark stock index ended the week at 4,501.73 points, down 3.43% from the previous close, on Thursday.

Starting the last transaction day of the week at 4,681.71 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 159.95 points compared to Wednesday's close.

The stock market will be closed on Friday as Türkiye will observe May 19 the Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth, and Sports Day, a national holiday.

The index's lowest value on Thursday was 4,489.06, while its daily high was 4,501.73.

The total market value of BIST 100 was around 3.7 trillion Turkish liras ($188.6 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 54.3 billion Turkish liras ($2.7 billion).

During the day, eight stocks on the index rose and 92 fell compared to the previous close.

The price of an ounce of gold was $1,957.35, while Brent crude oil sold for around $76.03 per barrel as of 6.40 p.m. local time (1540GMT).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 19.7970, the euro/lira exchange rate was 21.3280, and the British pound traded at 24.5470 Turkish liras.
