Turkish stocks down at Thursday's open

BIST 100 index loses 8.2 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,441.38 points on Thursday, falling by 0.57% or 8.21 points from the previous close.

At Wednesday’s close, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index was down 0.83% at 1,449.5 points, with a daily trading volume of 14.3 billion liras ($1.7 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 8.5280 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 8.4790 on Wednesday.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also increased to 9.9540 from 9.9460, while one British pound traded for 11.6860 Turkish liras, down from 11.7090 at Wednesday’s close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $67 as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
