Turkish stocks flat at Thursday's close

BIST 100 index rises 62 points from midweek close, USD/TRY exchange rate falls to 5.8490

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday at 121,000.85 points, up 0.05% from previous close.

Starting the day at 121,377.89 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 62.07 points from the midweek close at 121,804.10 points.

During Thursday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 120,763.09 points and 122.482.43 points, the highest level of all times, -- 35 stocks on the index rose, 61 fell and four were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 829.2 billion Turkish liras ($141 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 16.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.9 billion).

By market capitalization, Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.9 billion), private lenders Garanti BBVA ($8.7 billion) and Akbank ($7.85 billion) were the top companies of BIST 100.

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemicals producer Petkim and insurance firm Gunes Sigorta recorded the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of of Alkim Kimya, which produces chemical materials, gained the most -- up 8.96%-- , while shares of airline company Pegasus did the worst, falling 8.25%.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,556.10 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,552.05 at the previous close.

The price of Brent oil was $64.60 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT) on Thursday, with a day range of $63.91 to $64.79.

Turkey's Central Bank on Thursday lowered one-week repo rate, its policy rate, by 75 basis points to 11.25%, down from 12%.
