Turkish stocks go up at midweek open

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rises some 385 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index soared 0.38% or 384.8 points to start Wednesday at 101,597.7 points.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 0.60% to close the day at 101,212.91 points with a daily trading volume of 8.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.44 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate increased to 5.7860 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday from 5.7790 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also rose to 6.3930, versus 6.3800, and one British pound traded for 7.1580 Turkish liras, compared to 7.1630 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for around $62.75 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
