Turkish stocks looking up at Tuesday open

BIST 100 index gains 3.5 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,612.01 on Tuesday – a rise of 0.22%, or 3.47 points, from the previous close.

At Monday’s close, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index climbed above 1,600 points for the first time in history to close the day at a new record high of 1,608.54 points, with a daily trading volume of 25.6 billion Turkish liras ($2.6 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 9.7210 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) from 9.7300 at the previous close.

One euro traded for 11.2770 Turkish lira versus 11.2510 at Monday’s close, while the British pound/Turkish lira exchange rate was 13,1930, slightly down from 13.1980.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $83.40 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
