Turkish stocks start Thursday looking up

BIST 100 index rises over 270 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started Thursday at 109,383.75 points, up 0.25% or 272.41 points.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 0.94% to close the day at 109,111.34 points, with a daily trading volume of 14.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.7590 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday, compared to 6.7430 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also climbed to 7.5760 from 7.5650, and one British pound traded for 8.4990 Turkish liras, down from 8.5020 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $39.31 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
